Carbon intensity, measured at every stage of treatment.
CarbonMeter fits its retrofit monitoring nodes to pumps, blowers and aeration assets, and turns their energy use into one number per treatment stage: kgCO₂e per megalitre. Measured continuously, not estimated annually.
A works, instrumented. Each monitored stage reports its own energy draw and carbon intensity, so inefficiency shows up exactly where it lives — a worn pump, an over-aerated lane — instead of disappearing into a site total.
Readings shown are illustrative. CarbonMeter nodes retrofit onto existing assets — no de-cabling, no process interruption.
From site-level estimates to stage-level measurement
Operational carbon in water is mostly reported from billing data and allocation assumptions. CarbonMeter replaces the assumptions with measurement, using industrial-grade CarbonMeter monitoring proven in electrically hostile sites — VFDs, dust, continuous operation.
Energy measurement where the load is
CarbonMeter nodes on each pump, blower and aeration lane report energy use, demand and power quality in near real time — engineered to stay accurate on drive-fed loads.
Carbon intensity per treatment stage
The platform joins asset energy with flow to produce carbon intensity per megalitre at every stage — auditable, measurement-based figures for net-zero reporting, and a precise map of where inefficiency concentrates.
Bioresources and self-sufficiency
Measured biogas production and CHP output extend the same platform to digestion, closing the loop on a works' energy self-sufficiency.
AI on the data a works already holds
Telemetry and SCADA monitor process performance — they were never asked to price carbon. CarbonMeter sits alongside existing systems, read-only, and adds the carbon intelligence layer: joining asset energy with flow, applying AI analysis, and reporting intensity per stage. Hardware is kept to a minimum.
Start with what you already record
The platform ingests the data a works already holds — telemetry, site metering, flow records — and applies AI analysis before a single piece of hardware is fitted. A carbon baseline can begin from historical data alone.
Hardware only where visibility is missing
Where existing data stops at the site boundary, CarbonMeter supplies and fits its own retrofit monitoring nodes — only on the assets that need them. No rip-and-replace, no change to existing systems.
Analysis at the asset, by design
For environments where raw operational data must stay on site, the architecture supports edge deployment: analysis runs locally and only carbon and efficiency insights are shared — a posture designed for critical-infrastructure settings.
Deployment is a retrofit, not a project
-
Connect existing data
Site telemetry, metering and flow records feed the platform read-only. AI analysis and a first carbon baseline begin here — before any installation.
-
Retrofit where visibility is missing
CarbonMeter nodes fit non-invasively at the MCC or local isolator, only on assets existing data does not reach. No de-cabling, no outage, no change to the process.
-
Measure, compare, act
The platform tracks intensity per stage over time and across comparable assets, surfacing the refurbishments, control changes and scheduling shifts with the fastest payback.
Proven where measurement is hard
CarbonMeter runs in CNC manufacturing — an environment of drive-fed motors, conductive dust and around-the-clock duty that is electrically harsher than most treatment works. There the platform produces per-product carbon footprints from per-machine measurement; in water, the same architecture produces per-megalitre intensity from per-asset measurement.
Water treatment is the extension, not the experiment: the CarbonMeter stack — monitoring nodes, data pipeline and analytics — is the operating platform today.
Proposed: an exploratory pilot in Reading
We are based at Green Park, Reading — ten minutes from Reading Sewage Treatment Works and its innovation pilot hall. We propose a small, jointly-scoped trial with same-day, in-person engineering support.
Scope
10–20 assets across an inlet pumping station and an aeration lane — existing site data joined with CarbonMeter nodes where stage-level visibility is missing.
Duration
3–6 months: install and baseline, then two comparison cycles against existing site metering.
Success measures
Measurement accuracy vs. site meters, a carbon-intensity baseline per stage, and a ranked list of energy-saving opportunities.
